Never forget, imaginary sky guy sent his own flesh and blood (um, what?) as a sacrifice to cleanse man of the very sin he created, and to thwart the devil -- that he created, and he died for all out sins ----  the very essence of martyrdom. Or just a really great story, and some poor guy was led kicking and screaming towards a cross, awaiting his crucifixion, and begging not to die for his sins -- let alone anyone else's.
